Intro to Woodworking:
Receive an in-depth introduction to the woodshop at 3rd Ward. Students will leave the course with a familiarity with all the woodworking power and hand tools the shop is equipped. Level: Beginner.

Digital Design for Shop Fabrication:
This class will explore use of Rhino with focus on manual and CNC fabrication. On top of covering an array of topics including familiarity with using scripts, we will design a book shelf that will be “outsource” CNC’d and assembled in the 3rd Ward wood shop.
Section 1: Sundays 3:30-6:30p, September 12, 19, 26, October 3

Intro to the Lathe
Learn how to use the lathe to turn spindles, pen blanks and bowls. Participants will receive a 3-day shop pass to work on their projects outside of class meetings.

Custom Frame Shop
Learn how to build professional custom picture frames from raw materials. You will make a contemporary style frame utilizing the router table and miter saw. You'll complete the frame with custom cut plexiglass.

Intro to Upholstery
Learn the basics of furniture upholstery. Complete a slip seat on the first day utilizing webbing or plywood construction. The following classes will cover piping, tufting, tacking, finishing techniques and pattern making, as students work on their own small project.
Section 1: Tuesdays 7-10p, September 21, 28, October 5, 12

Loft Building Workshop:
Learn loft building from scratch with basic power tools and cheap materials readily available from Lowes or Home Depot. The class will collectively construct a loft and you will walk away with a firm understanding of building load bearing wooden structures.

Furniture Refinishing
Whether you have a family heirloom, a rescued relic, or an Ikea eyesore, we'll take you through the process of revitalizing the luster of old furniture.
