My work crosses from print and paper into sculpture and installation. Because I work large and in multiples I can cut up, overprint, and combine prints in multiple ways. I am constantly rebuilding and reassembling my work while adding new components and destroying old. For me, this process is analogous to how our social world is constructed.
Portapocalypse can be transported easily then ‘blow up’ to occupy any space. The work addresses war, empire, destruction, apocalypse, and the collusion of religion, power, and politics in American society.
In Course of Empire history is a labyrinth, neither linear nor cyclical, but rather unfolding and refolding in a convoluted mass. Each twist and turn corresponds to a stage in the rise and fall of empires, reconfigured to reflect the fractured nature of historical recollections.
The departure point for Triumphal Arch is a large multi-block print by Durer. The original print functioned as propaganda to promote a unified Europe. I have redrawn and reconfigured Triumphal Arch as an installation, replacing narrative panels with blue screen.
