In this intermediate silver course, we will be designing a hair comb or hair stick that will be conceptualized and fabricated in 6 weeks. Hair ornaments have been used for centuries as beautiful embellishments for festive occasions. We will take a look at head pieces from antiquity to the present. Hair ornaments not for you? Design a bail for a pendant or a simple pin back mechanism.

We will be learning tube setting - a stone setting technique in thick wall tubing and incorporate it into our design. Improve your soldering skills, reticulation and the rolling mill to create uniquely patterned metal. We will also incorporate cast elements if you choose.

Jan 27 – Mar 3, Thursdays 6pm – 9pm. $400 (plus tool list)

Level: Intermediate. Silversmithing skills required
