More than 75 Contemporary Artists Unite for Tibet in New York City

New York – Singer-songwriter Moby joins the Honorary Committee of the fifth-annual Art for Tibet show, where more than 75 acclaimed artists will exhibit art works to support the Tibetan freedom struggle on May 15, at Tibet House in New York City. The show will feature top contemporary Tibetan and international artists, including Shepard Fairey, David Ellis, Melodie Provenzano, Cey Adams, Ken Schles, Tashi Norbu, Ben Baker, Tenzin Rigdol, Karl Klingbiel, and more.

As the sustained and systematic repression in Tibet reaches new heights, Art for Tibet will bring together artists and activists to celebrate and support a non-violent freedom struggle that refuses to back down and continues to relentlessly work for freedom in Tibet. Since March 2009, at least 130 Tibetans have set fire to themselves in Tibet as an act of political protest against China’s unjust rule.

"The tremendous show of support from the artist community for Tibet is simply inspiring. Through a one-of-a-kind event like Art for Tibet, the artists are turning their works of art and genius into a powerful force for social and political justice for Tibet," said Tenzin Dolkar, Executive Director of Students for a Free Tibet. "I can't think of a more encouraging way to show solidarity with the Tibetan people in their struggle for freedom from Chinese rule.”

Art for Tibet is a hybrid auction that combines an in-gallery silent auction with an online auction. All artwork will be available online at starting May 12 for pre-bidding, which will close promptly at 12 noon EST on Thursday, May 15. The highest online bids will be entered onto bid sheets at the gallery and will serve as the opening bid amount. Bidding at the gallery will start at 6pm on the day of the event and end promptly at 8pm.
